Natural Nuptials

“I do’s” outside of a French-style chapel, an au naturel backdrop at a Texas ranch and an impressive spread of culinary treasures enjoyed under an outdoor reception tent make for three pleasantly alfresco weddings.

For college sweethearts Aaron Haynes and Madeline Moorhead, love came early, and after graduating from Vanderbilt University and going on to promising future careers, the pair decided to tie the knot. Thanks to event planning group Swift + Company, the young couple had an expert team to help them create their special day. “Aaron and I didn’t have much of an idea of what we wanted for our wedding; we just kept saying, ‘natural but elegant,’” says Madeline. They decided on a day filled with organic greenery mixed with a bevy of faint white and blush florals for a delicate and romantic feel. The Clubs at Houston Oaks embodied the aesthetic flawlessly. With a ceremony in front of The Club’s chapel and a reception at The Pavilion, the day was nothing short of a fairy tale.

After eight years of dating and traveling the world, Texas A&M graduates Allison Grainger and Michael Nepveux finally decided to tie the knot. A more than fitting venue—the stunning ranch property in Brenham, where Allison grew up—was the locale for their celebration of love. Fully embracing the return to their roots, the couple held their reception atop the highest point on a hill overlooking Brenham and College Station. With the help of their wedding planner, Paula Growden at Beau Tied Events, their nuptials were a dream. The inspiration for the wedding resulted in a day filled with hues of plum—a nod to autumn—along with elements of greenery, navy, oxblood and black, with splashes of lavender and gold. The day wouldn’t have been complete without some Tex-Mex flavor, including the enchiladas from Manuel’s Mexican Restaurant, which they had enjoyed on their first date, accompanied by beer from Nashville, Tenn., Texas and other locations from their travels together. The evening glowed under the wedding tent thanks to the twinkling bistro lights strung above the dance floor and candles lit at each table until the very last dance.

Reception: The Lodge,
Fredericksburg, Texas

An unconventional meeting (she was initially set up with his roommate!), four years of dating bliss and a whirlwind European proposal later, Ashley Hughes and Chris Collier made their love for each other official. Fredericksburg was the location for the special day, and it turned out to be the perfect spot for their “rustic-chic yet comfortable” wedding. The duo didn’t spare an ounce of fun for the celebration—“The photo booth was a quirky twist on the traditional. You not only got digital printouts, but a character drawing of your photos as well,” says Ashley. It didn’t stop there. Chris was passionate about including a live band that could play through the variety of multigenerational gaps of the guests and allow them to offer up requests. A cigar roller for the gentlemen was a highlight, while the ladies enjoyed a delectable spread of six different dessert offerings between three cake options.
