Bridal Sign Up

Under the Palms

A stylish Miami Beach couple says “I do” in an outdoor ceremony at the W South Beach’s grand lawn underneath swaying palm trees and romantic garden lighting.

The couple chose to wed on the lushly landscaped lawn of the W South Beach.

Inspired by The Great Gatsby, reception decor featured layers of glitz and glam

It all began with a chance encounter. William Butler was leaving a bar on Lincoln Road just as Patrick Szaraz was arriving. They exchanged phone numbers and the next day, the two met for cocktails at Smith & Wollensky steakhouse, “and we just clicked,” William recalls. The two bonded over their similar upbringings—only an hour apart in Pennsylvania, they discovered—“and the rest,” William says, “is history.” Three years later, on a quiet Saturday morning in South Pointe Park, William and Patrick exchanged engagement rings.

The wedding itself would be much more elaborate. After scouring their Miami Beach neighborhood for the perfect venue, the couple selected the posh W South Beach. “It’s super-secluded, but it’s very Miami,” says William, noting that the property’s palm trees, larger-than-life hedges and proximity to the waterfront gave out-of-town guests a taste of his and Patrick’s beloved Miami Beach.

“All the details that you see in the photos very much have our handprint on them,” William says. “It really was a cool process for us.” One of the coolest parts of the process was the officiant himself: Michael Murray, the longtime partner of William’s identical twin brother, Warren.

After the ceremony and courtyard cocktail hour, William and Patrick joined 160 guests in the hotel’s elegant Great Room for dinner, dancing and playful snapshots in a photo booth.

The newlyweds honeymooned at The St. Regis Princeville Resort in Kauai, Hawaii. They hiked, took a helicopter tour and relaxed on the beach under a sun as bright as the future they’ll share.
