When Laura Eshelman, a real estate broker at Avison Young, and Teddy Peterson, digital director for the National Republican Congressional Committee, were planning their wedding reception at the Chevy Chase Club—which was a second home to Laura growing up—the couple worked with wedding planner Anne Book to “pull in a lot of residential touches to make the ballroom feel like home,” Laura says, such as coffee-table books, bowls of fruit, matchbooks and tapered candles. “My biggest fear was having the room feel cavernous and bare,” she continues. “My mom, Anne and I were a great team in coming up with ways to warm up the space and have it feel like a cozy, intimate dinner party.” The reception, which followed the couple’s ceremony at All Saints Church, featured a relatively neutral palette—lots of cream and champagne tones accented with greens and burgundy. Special moments from the evening included a tequila toast led by Laura’s dad and Teddy (“to get the party going!” says Laura), a delectable filet mignon dinner, and the couple’s memorable exit—down an aisle created by guests holding lit sparklers in front of the club. The bride and groom decided to let the groomsmen wear their own black tuxes, to avoid the dreaded “clown suit” feel many groomsmen endure for their best buddies. And florists at Sweet Root Village created jaw-droppingly lush arrangements packed with wild-feeling greenery, and accented with gorgeous garden roses, berries, figs and pears. “My bouquet was an unstructured, cascading arrangement of roses, seeded eucalyptus and jasmine vine,” the bride recalls. “It was just beautiful.”
