Bridal Sign Up

Virginia Green

The slogan is true—Virginia is for lovers. At least for these three couples, who said “I do” surrounded by supremely verdant landscapes courtesy of the Old Dominion State.

Ceremony & Reception: Breaux Vineyards

When the backdrops for your wedding are as breathtaking as those found at verdant Breaux Vineyards in Purcellville, Va., it’s best not to guild the lily with frivolous details. That was a guiding thought for newlyweds Tani Jausurawong and Philip Ray Wiest III. “We didn’t want to detract from the beauty of the vineyard with excessive decorations,” says Jausurawong, who chose blush, cream, white, and hints of burgundy as her color palette. The couple fused Thai and American customs in their outdoor ceremony, which took place under an arbor built by the bride’s father that was festooned with gorgeous, garden-style floral arrangements. The ceremony, officiated by a Christian minister, included a water blessing ceremony from Thai culture—where guests poured a trickle of water over the couples’ hands while relaying blessings of good luck, happiness and prosperity. –Irene Walton

A grand proposal surrounded by family and friends was Christopher’s plan—but it just couldn’t wait. “He ended up proposing to me at home in private,” recounts Samantha. “We still met our family and friends; I just had a little bit more time to wear my new ring before showing it off!” The couple, who met through friends, couldn’t resist the pastoral scenery of the Trump National Golf Club and set their sights on planning a “whimsical, romantic” wedding there. The bride shone in a floaty, strapless ball gown; the groom wore a navy-blue tux. Pops of burgundy added to the gray, navy and blush color scheme, while various shades of white came through in the lush-feeling bouquets, centerpieces, and even in the large whitewashed wood king table. Custom blankets encouraged guests to snuggle up during the outdoor ceremony, which was officiated by the groom’s best friend.

A trio of cakes sweetened the deal—Candy Bar Crunch for the groom, a nearly naked chocolate confection as the official wedding cake, and a strawberry and blackberry meringue vanilla sheet cake for guests—while a midnight snack courtesy of guilty pleasure Chick-Fil-A kept the celebration—and the dancing—going strong. –Brittany Siminitz

Ceremony: Shadow Creek

As an equestrian, Lisa Tilley Shrader wanted a location for her wedding that would capture her love of horses “and convey a sense of peace and tranquility,” she says. The couple, whose first date was over coffee at Starbucks, found their dream venue in the stunning, rustic-luxe Shadow Creek venue in Purcellville, Va. To pull off a luxury wedding in the venue’s cinematic barn, the couple put their trust in planner Jodi Moraru at Evoke. “On numerous occasions, Bryan and I would even say to each other, ‘No matter what we decide, Jodi won’t let us make a mistake,’” says Lisa. The space itself was festooned with accents and flowers in hues of blush, sage and gold—and a breathtaking flower-strewn chandelier hung from the center of the room. “We wanted our guests to feel the peacefulness that comes with connecting to something that’s bigger than just you,” says the bride. –Irene Walton
