BEST CUSTOM FOOTWEAR
Handcraftsmanship is at the heart of bespoke brand Esquivel, with more than 100 steps put into the made-to-order design of each pair of men’s ($900 to $2,200) and women’s ($800 to $1,100) shoes. “Esquivel’s unique aesthetic is achieved because we do not use many machines or prefabricate any of the shoe components,” says founder, designer and Creative Director George Esquivel, whose atelier is located in Buena Park. “We handcut the upper, soles and heels, and, when required, we even make our own laces.” Oxfords, booties, mules and more are available in rich leathers, velvets and even exotic hides ($4,500 to $19,000), with materials sourced from the finest manufacturers in the world. “Every pair shows subtle imperfections, and it gives them a sense and feel of individuality,” says Esquivel. “In the end, it is that individuality that… is a big part of the Southern California lifestyle.”

BEST BAUBLES
For rings that ravish and diamonds that dazzle, head to Lido Marina Village’s Broken English. Opened last April by aesthete Laura Freedman, the curated boutique is dripping in vintage and contemporary fine jewels from beloved designers like Anita Ko, Jennifer Meyer and Anahita, with prices climbing up to $100,000-plus per piece. “[Newport is] such a beautiful, quaint little town, and I really thought [the village] needed a jewelry store,” says Freedman, who recently debuted her own line of jewelry boxes and objets d’art. On our wish list: Anahita’s 18K yellow gold Serpent cuff ($12,902) with a white South Sea pearl, tsavorite, gray sapphires and white diamond pavĂ©.

BEST CUSTOM SUITING
Ensure that your next suit is utterly one of a kind with Dior Homme’s in-store, by-request-only Demi-Mesure service at South Coast Plaza, which allows dapper gents to choose from 14 styles of suits (from $4,100), two coats (from $3,200) and 15 shirts (from $770). Select the silhouette that suits you best, then refine it with 600 luxury fabrics for suiting and 200 for shirting. An expert sales assistant and master tailor from Dior will then produce a try-on version of your ensemble within five to eight weeks. A second fitting allows for tweaks to be made before your unique piece arrives one week later from Italy in a black cotton gabardine garment bag (for suits) or a black cotton poplin travel pouch (for shirts), embroidered with the brand’s signature logo, of course. How’s that for bespoke?
