A sold-out Pink Tie Ball crowd helped rake in $600,000-plus for Komen Orange County’s support programs and research funding.
THE PARTY On the Edge was the night’s theme, and the Komen O.C. Pink Tie Ball committee picked a setting to match—Paséa Hotel & Spa’s Ocean Lawn, where more than 500 guests enjoyed cocktails and bites by Bluewater Grill (founder Jim Ulcickas is a former Pink Tie Guy, by the way). THE GUESTS Dr. Jessica Rhee (who co-chaired the soiree with husband and 2017 Pink Tie Guy Mark Rhee) was stunning in her off-the-shoulder gown and necklace of diamonds and sapphires. Debbie Mahon looked equally elegant in alluring lace. THE HIGHLIGHTS Jacque Balbas-Ruddy bravely shared the story of her yearslong battle with breast cancer and spoke of how Komen’s support programs helped her family in significant ways (donors covered the cost of her surgery). Of course, much applause was given to this year’s seven Pink Tie Guys (Hoag Hospital’s Robert Braithwaite and Allergan’s David Moatazedi among them). And lots of bidding (of the silent and live variety) occurred, thanks to glorious gifts like Winston’s Crown Jewelers’ offering of $12,500 worth of fine baubles. It all helped bring in upward of $635,000 so that the agency can continue its fight to end the disease. -Tina Borgatta
