Married four years, George Ledes and Christine Schott Ledes met in the beauty business. He was the CEO of Cosmetic World and Beauty Fashion, New York-based trade publications. He hired her away from Elite Model Management to become his editor-in-chief. Last year, they left George’s family business behind and have embarked on their own entrepreneurial pursuits. Christine is the co-founder and president of the American Influencer Association, which she describes as a “trade organization for influencers, which has become an industry in itself.” George is the founder, editor and publisher of This Week With George Ledes, an email newsletter he distributes on Sundays that provides beauty-industry insiders with news and gossip. Each year in November, the couple makes the trek south from their home in Bedford, N.Y., and then head back north in April.
With the projects you each have going now, do you arrive in Palm Beach and not miss a beat?
CSL: There’s essentially no difference from a business standpoint. There is a difference with the weather.
GL: Have iPhone, will travel.
What are your favorite places to shop in Palm Beach?
GL: I’ve grown up around luxury retail and love Saks, Hermès, Chanel. We’re constantly running into Saks. I love New York, Paris and Milan, but it’s more relaxing shopping in Palm Beach. I think it’s great that Hermès moved off Worth Avenue onto Royal Poinciana Plaza. It was risky, but it’s beautiful what they’ve done.
Christine, let’s get into your specialty. Who are your top influencers in Palm Beach?
CSL: Four come to mind. Ashley Stark [Kenner] is Andrea and Jonathan Stark’s daughter. They own Stark Carpet. Ashley is an interior design influencer with 552,000 Instagram followers (@ashleytstark). Daphne Oz, Dr. Oz’s daughter, has 341,000 Instagram followers (@daphneoz). Allegra Fanjul [Garcia-Velez]—she’s the daughter of Andres and Kathy Fanjul—is a style blogger with 23,000 Instagram followers (@veryallegra). My one to watch is Danielle Lauder, who has about 5,981 followers (@daniellelauder). She’s a mental-health advocate, actor and the granddaughter of Estée Lauder.
When you arrive in Palm Beach from New York in November, what are the things you look to do first?
CSL: We love to eat alfresco, just smelling the salt air and feeling the warm breeze is so nice. We also love going to BrickTop’s. Palm Beach Grill is a definite go-to. A lot of times, we’ll end up at Imoto.
George, how about you?
GL: Publix fried chicken. I need my fix as soon as I hit town.
