Read or bust.

The second annual Bay Area Book Festival hits Berkeley this month, with nearly 300 authors reading and a film festival at the new Berkeley Art Museum and Pacific Film Archive. Three local scribes give us their must-sees.

Her pick: “The film on Czeslaw Milosz. As a poet, I love his turn of phrase.” June 1, BAMPFA

Caroline Paul
Her gig: Reading from her new memoir, The Gutsy Girl, with her partner, illustrator Wendy MacNaughton. June 4, Berkeley Public Library
Her pick: “Hearing Faith Adiele speak on a panel called ‘Why Write Memoir?’—a question I always ask myself.” June 5, Hotel Shattuck Plaza

Daniel Handler
His gig: Deconstructing storytelling with fellow novelist Sherman Alexie. June 5, Freight & Salvage
His pick: “[Former poet laureate] Robert Hass’s panel, ‘New California Poets,’ includes Solmaz Sharif, whose first book is greedily anticipated in my house.” June 5, Hotel Shattuck Plaza
