Tricia and Stephen Butler were making the move from Houston to the Bay Area, facilitated by Stephen’s job as an airline pilot for United. Stephen was originally from Portland and had long been itching to get back to the West Coast. But he and Tricia were unfamiliar with the San Francisco market, so they needed an able guide to help them with the transition. Tricia had been researching agents online, and a duo there had immediately caught her eye: Kevin Ho and Jonathan McNarry. “I went to their website and read all about them, and I just knew they would be our realtors,” she says.

Their very first meeting with Ho and McNarry was a multi-hour crash course on the complexities of the San Francisco market, the nuances of the different neighborhoods, the realities of setting a budget, and the importance of finding the right mortgage lender—that is, one known in the city for closing fast. “We walked out of that meeting and felt like we not only secured the best agent duo in SF, but had made new friends,” Stephen wrote in a subsequent Yelp review. “And since we’re new to SF and have no friends, we needed all the friends we can get.”

The master class paid off, and the Butlers closed on their new home six weeks later. It was a three-year-old 1,100-square-foot two-bedroom condo in Buena Vista Heights, near a park and with a private patch of lawn for their dogs to enjoy. It was the first and only place they bid on.

And although it’s a downsize from their 2,500-square-foot detached home in Houston (which they sold to fund the sale), they got exactly the city life they had imagined for themselves. “We love the area, the street is beautiful, we are a block away from Buena Vista Park, and the views from one block up are amazing,” Tricia says. “We consider ourselves extremely lucky and blessed.”
