Rapid Review: Chocolate Lab

Tartines, souffles—so much more than cocoa.

Chocolate Lab in the Dogpatch.

At chocolatier Michael Recchiuti’s little sweet-savory café, tartines—delicate open-faced sandwiches—include a ladies-who-lunch version topped with bay shrimp and crème fraîche. Fluffy soufflés are also on order. Of course, you save room for dessert, but not necessarily chocolate-only. The tarte tatin with apples, enveloped in a deep caramel and served with salted caramel ice cream, is a conversation stopper. 801 22nd St. (at Tennessee St.)
