Johnston’s Saltbox
This highly Instagrammable eatery—run by San Carlos native Jennifer McAteer Johnston and her husband, Sean—is easy to find: Just look for the crowds during weekend brunch hours, when the kitchen churns out delectable dishes such as a fried chicken sandwich ($14) and an avocado tartine ($15). Don’t miss the bakeshop specials, like fruit-laden scones accompanied by housemade jam ($6). Adults can also enjoy bellinis ($9) or the Saltbox Red Eye ($10), a Bloody Mary made with beer and bacon, while the kiddos chow down on buttermilk pancakes ($14). If you’re waiting for a table, help yourself to a cup of coffee from the self-service station on the patio. 1696 Laurel St., San Carlos, 650.592.7258

Lure + Till
A brand-new addition to its weekend brunch menu is earning this two-year-old restaurant a place in our regular rotation. The Bubble Brunch ($49) is served from 11am to 3pm, and comes with three coursed-out dishes, each paired with a glass of luxury Champagne. For example, slow-cooked eggs with guanciale and trumpet mushrooms arrive at the table with Billecart-Salmon Brut, or Kumamoto oysters garnished with salmon roe and cucumber are matched with Möet & Chandon Reserve Imperial. Navio
The Sunday brunch buffet at Navio ($109 per person), located at the Ritz-Carlton, Half Moon Bay, is quite a production. Come hungry, with at least a couple of hours set aside; seatings start at noon. A multitude of stations are available, offering local cheeses and charcuteries, fresh salads and fruits, sushi, dim sum, a raw oyster bar, caviar, traditional breakfast items and an array of sweets. The price includes food and nonalcoholic beverages. Walk off your meal afterward by strolling the resort’s stunning oceanfront grounds. (Navio recently added a farmers market-focused brunch on Saturdays; it's $89 per person with a complimentary create-your-own Bloody Mary.) 1 Miramontes Point Road, Half Moon Bay, 650.712.7040

Orchard City Kitchen
Jeffrey Stout’s Orchard City Kitchen delivers amazing, ingredient-driven food in a contemporary setting. According to Stout, almost every table orders the Triple B: biscuits, bacon and honey butter ($7). And while there are some familiar dishes in the lineup, don’t miss creative spins such as Loco Moco, made with a hamburger patty, fried egg, rice and mushroom-shallot gravy ($15.50). Wash it down with a P.O.G. mimosa ($9 for a glass, $24 for a pitcher). The menu's Hawaiian influences are courtesy of GM Cyrus Schultz, who hails from Maui. The Pruneyard, 1875 S. The Table
South Bay restaurateur and chef Jim Stump’s Willow Glen establishment dishes up contemporary American cuisine, with brunch offered Wednesday through Sunday. While the weekday and weekend menus differ, fortunately both include the ricotta beignets with lemon curd ($6); lemon ricotta pancakes with date butter ($13); Scotch egg with romesco sauce ($8); and an excellent burger, available with cheddar and potato wedges ($16).
