Occidental Grill & Seafood’s festive pre-theater menu is a whimsical treat.

By now you’ve surely purchased your tickets for The Washington Ballet’s annual production of The Nutcracker, which runs Nov. 24 to 25 at THEARC Theater and Nov. 29 to Dec. 28 at Warner Theatre and celebrates 15 years of former Artistic Director Septime Webre’s beloved DC version. But have you made reservations for a pre-theater meal? We suggest you do just that at Occidental Grill & Seafood. Beginning Nov. 29 (to coincide with the production at the Warner), the restaurant is raising the curtain on its themed prix fixe menu crafted by executive chef Jake Addeo. The first act comes by way of The Arabian Coffee March. It’s a foie gras torchon with Arabic coffee dust, candied husk tomatoes, concord grape jam and brioche. The second? A Spanish Chocolate Dance of chocolate-braised veal cheeks with whipped kabocha squash and almond-pumpkin seed brittle. The showstopping last course whisks sugar lovers away to the Land of Sweets with the Twirl of the Sugar Plum Fairy. (That’s a buttermilk panna cotta with candied purple plum gelee.) To pair with it all, of course, is mixologist Frankie Jones’ Nestled in Bed libation (available for purchase separately). Sweet dreams, indeed. $55, reservations recommended, 1475 Pennsylvania Avenue NW, 202.783.1475
